1970s Inspiration

I was looking for some Studio 54 pictures as inspiration for the 70s glam trend and came across these ones of the gorgeous jerry Hall among others which I thought I'd share. I love how fun and relaxed atmosphere appears from the pictures and jerry's fabulous long thick hair.

Oriental-Pear

The trick with this trend is don't take it too literally. Kimono, chopsticks and an obi belt isn't the best bet.

This dress is great for a pear shape as it skims the hips and thighs, defines the waist and has slight volume on top to help balance out the hips, creating the ideal hourglass figure.

For day: keeping it paired down and casual. Nude sandals help elongate and slim the leg.
Oversized bags are pratial AND will make your hips look smaller (little slimming trick there)
chunky watches are stop the outfit looking too girlie and are a fashion investment.

For nIght: Add chunky ewllerry for a glamorous evening feel.
Red lipstick is glamorous and an easy way to ring the outfit from day to night.
colourful accessories complement the dress (and are another key trend this season)

The Great Escape

just a quick blog about a music festival that's coming up which I thought was worth a mention. The Great Escape in brighton is a 3 day music festival in May showcasing new music, which my housemate told me about. Had a quick look at the line up and Katy b is playing which is enough for me, I love Katy . Anyway I put the we link below. What's great is it's pretty cheap and you don't have to go for the whole 3 days there's loads of ticket options depending on who you want to see. Plus brighton = beach and shopping opportunities!!

Body type-rectangular

Identified by:
  • Straight up and down.
  • Slim legs.
  • Flat bum.
  • Broad shoulders and narrow hips.
Tips to dress:
  • With this figure you an pretty much wear what you want trouser wise. Emphasise slim legs in fitted trousers.
  • Shorts and short skirts again emphasise your great legs.
  • Wear a lok colour on top to create a longer waist.
  • Due to your slim legs you an wear patterns and colours on your bottom half with ease.
  • belts again create a waist.

Body Type-Hourglass

Identified by:
  • Often regarded as the ideal shape.
  • Hips and bust are around the same size with a small waist.
  • curvy.
  • Shapely legs.
Tips for dressing:
  • WAIST. Always make the most of this and use it as your focal point.
  • The Italian bombshell look is a great for this body type. Look to Dolce and Gabbana for inspiration.

Body Type-Apple

Identified by:

  • Slim legs.
  • Weight is gained on the top half of the body, round the stomach.
  • Top half is larger than the bottom half.
Tips for dressing:

  • bootcut trousers again are the most flattering shape to wear as they create a balanced silhouette. Don't be tempted to wear baggy bottoms as this will just make you appear large all over.
  • Go for skirts which start from the waist and flow over the stomach to flatter it. To show off slim legs find a skirt which finishes at the knees. Skirts which are too short will just make you look out of proportion.
  • Apples normally have a lack of waist, use belts to create the illusion of one.

body Type-Pear

First up is pear shape, this is identified by:

  • Narrow or sloped shoulders.
  • Small to medium bust
  • Small waist
  • Fuller hips and thighs. Weight is generally put on in this area.
Tips for dressing:
  • Dark colours work best for the bottom as they have a slimming effect.
  • Generally bootcut and straight leg trousers work best to flatter, however this doesn't mean you can't wear leggings and skinny jeans as long as you know how.
  • Make the most of a small waist with fitted tops and belts to cinch in the waist.
  • Floaty skirts and dresses flatter heavy bottom halves, or try a fitted skirt and top with a belt to create an hourglass figure.

Body Types

So barbie may have a perfect body but we're not all genetically inclined to look that way and women often fined it hard to identify what best suits the body shape they have. So here's a little guide to identify your shape and problem areas and then I'll be showing you how best to wear this seasons trends for your body type.

Spring Summer 11 Trends- colour

Colour was one of the biggest trends on the catwalk and is perfect for s/s. Any colour goes but fluro brights are super hot. Try teaming a bright bottom with a plain white tee, a la jill Sander or go for one colour but in varying shades from head to toe. However, you do it be bold.

Spring Summer 11 Trends-Minimal

All over the shows this season. Think lean lines, simple, classic shapes and sophistication. A neutral palette works best.

Spring Summer 11 Trends-Sports

Sportswear has been a continuing trend over the past few seasons. For S/S11 it's about a modern, glossy and sleek feel with the focus on detailing such as zips and mesh inserts.
Sophisticated, it's sportswear couture this season.

Spring Summer 11 Trends-Oriental

Louis Vuitton headed up the oriental trend this season. Lots of colour and luxurious fabric with those amazing monogrammed fans.
Look for obi belts, oriental flower prints, colour and wrap over jackets. Don't be too literal or you could wind up looking like an extra from Mulan.

Spring Summer 11 Trends-70s Glamour

The Seventies is a huge trend this season. Think Glamour, studio 54 and jerry Hall. Hair, maxi dresses and flares.
Topshop Unique had a great retro feel to their show, with tie dye prints, crimped hair and the cut out swimsuit. Fun and fabulous.
Halston on the other hand presented a more grown up glamour with plain maxi dresses in tangerine and floaty fabric.

Spring Summer 11 Trends-Safari/Texture

Safari always crops up on the summer catwalks. This season it's mixed with textures such as fringing to add interest. Think movement and texture rather than boho.

Spring Summer 11 Trends-Pattern

One of my favourite trends for this season is pattern. It's perfect for those summer days adding a little rightness and colour!! I think my favourite is D&G with the summery prints and colours.

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.
